The Top 10 Places to Buy Workout Clothes
Exercising is an important part of being fit and fabulous moms. While it is important to dress comfortably and with the right equipment when working out, it is also important to wear clothing that makes you feel good. New workout clothes are also a great incentive for meeting fitness goals. You can purchase workout clothes at a variety of price points and stores. Below is my list of the top 10 places to buy workout clothes.
Victoria’s Secret carries a wide variety of workout clothes. They have expanded both their VSX and their Pink lines in the past few years, shifting away from their previous focus on trendy clothes and shoes. I like their sports bras and yoga pants. They’ve increased the range of sizes, and many of their sports bras go up to a DDD and provide the support needed for large chests. Their yoga pants are super comfortable, and most include a pocket big enough to fit an iPhone 6. They come in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and lengths, and most have multiple sports bras that match. The prices are moderate, and you can get great deals during their annual sale or at their outlets.
The Champion line at Target, called C9, also has a large variety of workout clothes, with many color-coordinated separates. Target is one of my favorite stores, and I do most of my shopping there, so it’s also convenient and the prices are reasonable. Also, they also have plus and maternity lines, which many stores do not carry. In addition, they have athletic shoes, at prices much lower than your big name brands. However, their sports bras are not designed chest sizes outside the standard range.
Fabletics is primarily an online store (they do have some physical locations) with a VIP membership program that allows you to get your first fitness outfit for only $25. However, the sports bras, much like some of the other stores, are not appropriate for cardio or high-impact workouts for large-chested women. They have a lot of really cute separates, with strappy sports bras and open back shirts to show them off. The cost as a VIP after the first outfit is $49.95 per month, but you can choose to cancel or skip a month. If you don’t do this by the 5th, you will be charged and have a credit waiting for you. Membership also includes additional perks. You can also choose to shop as a guest, but you won’t be eligible for the discounted fitness outfit.
Workout clothes from Old Navy are a staple in my workout wardrobe, and for a good reason. Their clothes are cheap but decent quality, they have everything from shoes to hairbands, a large variety of sizes and support, and cute mix and match separates. Old Navy is probably the best place to start if you’re looking to add to your workout clothes. In addition to being cheap to begin with, they are always having sales (and you can also pick up other cute clothes for yourself or the whole family).
Athleta is another Gap brand, just like Old Navy. The great thing about being a part of the Gap brand is that you can mix and match brands in the same shopping trip; maybe paying more for a sports bra or capris and less for a t-shirt or tank. Athleta is primarily an online or catalog store, but they do have some physical stores. Their clothes do tend to be a bit pricier than some of the other brands I’ve listed, but the clothes are high quality, and they have one of the biggest selections of workout clothes to meet the needs of most sports and most styles.
Many athletic brands have their own stores, both online and physical. Most also have outlet stores. Popular brands tend to have a lot of cute and functional workouts – many of which coordinate with their shoes. I prefer Nike and Asics. I know they are often pricey, so shopping sales or going to their outlet stores will help you get the best price. Both primarily focus on running shoes, but you can also find cross-trainers, CrossFit, triathlon, and basketball shoes. This applies to most shoe brands.
Amazon is one of my favorite places to buy just about anything, including fitness apparel. They have a huge selection of brands and products, many of which are eligible for free two-day Prime shipping. Some of my favorite things to shop for are cute workout tanks. The two pictured above are both available at Amazon.
You can probably find anything and everything on eBay, including workout clothes. You can often find new or like new brand name workout clothes and shoes at a much lower price than retail. It’s also a good place to look if there is a pair of shoes or piece of clothing that you like, but stores are no longer selling. My latest obsession is Nike tennis skirts, which I love for cardio workouts, especially running.
zulily is another great place to find workout clothes. You have to sign up to be a member to shop their sales, but there is no obligation to buy anything. They carry a wide variety of brands, and the selection turns over quickly. Although most of the brands are likely to be ones you don’t recognize, they often have sales on popular brands. Also, you can find sales on exercise equipment, supplements, and shoes, among other products.
PlanetGear is a membership site just for women’s outdoor shoes, workout, and fitness apparel. Like zulily there is no obligation to buy anything. You can find products for up to 70% off retail. Since it is a site just for women’s fitness, there is a huge selection of items, all of which turn over quickly. So there is always something new to discover.
